Two New Exhibits - Two Artists' Talks

Two new exhibits at the Ross Art Museum opened today:

About Place, an exhibition of drawings, prints and paintings by Gale Wallar, OWU class of 1971, who is being honored as the 2010 Anne Outram Gui Distinguished Alumni Exhibitor.

Ms. Wallar traveled extensively with her husband while he worked for the State Department, and her work is a response to the varied places they lived.

There will be a Gallery Talk by the artist on Friday, October 8th at 2:30pm followed by a reception in the Museum.

Also on view: Brazil, an exhibition of large-scale color photographs by Ralph Gibson. These giant photos are a part of the Ross Museum's Permanent Collection, gifted by several donors.

Mr. Gibson will be giving a Talk on Thursday, September 30th at 7:30pm in the RW Corns Building, Room 312. Following the talk, there will be a reception in the Museum.

Welcome Back!

It's a new school year, and we have 2 lovely new exhibits to open with!

We are featuring the work of Anne McCauley and Duane Monczewski. Both artists will be on campus on Thursday, August 26th to speak at 3:00pm, and we'll follow with a lively reception at the museum, including libations, appetizers and live music!

Anne McCauley's works are large-scale drawings and smaller prints of found objects. She includes a display of some of those finds in the show, which is especially intriguing!

"My current work, explores notions of yearning, searching, and discovering. With an accumulation of “evidence/debris” from my surroundings I expand my shape and texture vocabulary."

Duane Monczewski's work is color photographs taken all over the Southwest, and yes, that wall is REALLY that green!!

"His work is concerned with light on surface, and the manipulation of the photographic print. Working with a variety of film types, including infrared, he utilizes selective bleaching and toning and a variety of surface treatments..."

In the Lobby Gallery, we also feature some of Duane's black and white photographs from the museum's Permanent Collection.

Both exhibits are open now, until September 17th.

5 Colleges of Ohio 2010 Student Biennial

We are, for the very first time, hosting the 5 Colleges of Ohio Student Biennial here at the Ross Art Museum. Kitty Zurko founded the exhibit at The College of Wooster, and held it there at least 4 times prior to this year. Kitty deserved a break, and Justin volunteered us!

64 works from students enrolled at Denison, Kenyon, Oberlin, OWU and The College of Wooster are featured. There will be an opening reception tonight from 7:00-9:00pm featuring refreshments and live music, and we will present 5 $200 Juror's Awards and 6 Merit Awards.

The exhibit will be up from now until April 1st, although we'll be closed during OWU's Spring Break from March 7th - March 15th.

Stanley Scott - Gallery 2001

There is a brand new exhibit in Beeghly Library/Gallery 2001....Drawings by Stanley Scott.

These are large-scale drawings on paper, and are really stunning. They look lush and velvety, and it's difficult to keep your hands to yourself (but NO TOUCHING!!).

This will be a 2-phase exhibit, with another set of Stanley Scott drawings going up next month. With such large pieces, the library only holds 6 at a time!

Be sure to check these out soon!
