Summertime is for Quilts!

Art Quilts, from the Quilt Surface Design Symposium's 2016 Invitational, Party On!

The theme was meant to encompass all the various meanings of the word "party", including celebrations of birth, retirement, loss of a loved one (wakes), as well as the political variety. In response, 31 quilts were accepted by the jury, and are on view now!

The exhibit will be up through July 1st, and the Ross Museum will be open on our summertime schedule: Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 1pm - 5pm, Thursdays 1pm - 7pm.

Summer at the Ross

School's out, and we're enjoying our summertime exhibit, the QSDS (Quilt Surface Design Symposium) Invitational art quilt exhibit! Quilts from all over the U.S. plus Israel and Australia, showcasing the creativity of the medium. Our summer hours are Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 1-5pm, Thursdays 1-7pm. We'll be open thru July 3rd, so stop on by!

"Unexpected" artwork

"Unexpected" is the title of the 2013 QSDS Invitational Exhibition now on view at the Ross Art Museum. Entrants were asked specifically to submit those quilts that were most unusual, whether in technique, imagery or content, and the result is a striking show of 52 quilts from across the United States as well as Israel and Japan.

The summer hours for the Ross are:

Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday 1-5pm, Thursdays 1-7pm, or by special appointment.

Stop in and enjoy huge quilts, tiny quilts, jeweled, painted and printed quilts. There is even 1 quilt that is 26 feet long!

Summertime, and we've got air conditioning!

Although the Ross Museum will be closed until August 23rd, there are 2 other great exhibits open on campus:

Louise Captein, The Remarkable Suppleness of Shapes, is on view in Beeghly Library in the Gallery 2001 space (right when you walk in the doors). Louise makes postcard sized paper collages, then creates large oil paintings from them. Both the paintings AND the original small collages are on display until September 20th.

Lorraine Torrence, Checkerboard Musings, is on view in Mowry Alumni Center (directly across from Beeghly Library) until September 16th, and features art quilts. Lorraine is an OWU alumna, and teaches extensively around the country.

So beat the heat, and check out some free art exhibits!

Summer 2012

Graduation 2012 is complete, Alumni Weekend is over, and the campus is blooming!

The Ross Art Museum will be open this summer through July 3rd, showcasing the QSDS Invitational, Celebrating Our Past. The Quilt Surface Design Symposium exhibit occurs every other year, so don't miss your chance to see the best in art quilts. As a special addition, Lorraine Torrence '63 is sharing her own art quilts in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, so you'll double your pleasure! Above, Directions by Marla Hattabaugh.

The Quilted Surface VI

...opens Friday, May 14th in time for Alumni Weekend. After that, the exhibit will be open on a limited summer schedule:

Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Thursday 1:00pm - 7:00pm

Closed on Monday, Friday and Saturday

The exhibit will continue through July 1st. There are 40 artists from the U.S., Canada, Japan and Israel, with 44 examples of "cutting edge" quilt art.

Art Quilt exhibit in Gallery 2001

There is now a great exhibit of Art Quilts on display in Gallery 2001 in Beeghley Library. 17 artists from Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Idaho, Indiana and Canada are featured.

This is the QSDS Invitational; the Quilt Surface Design Symposium is an intensive seminar for art quilters, teachers and participants from around the globe come to central Ohio each June to work in a creative atmosphere. The Invitational exhibit is drawn from past participants. The Ross Art Museum has hosted a full exhibit twice now, and will again in 2010; every other year. This year, Gallery 2001 is hosting a mini version, but it is no less exquisite!

The exhibit will be open until August 9th; the Library summer hours are 9-5.
