New Year, New Exhibits

With the New Year begun, we've just opened new exhibits in the Ross Museum.

We've got an elegant show of sculpture by Wooster, Ohio resident Walter Zurko in our Kuhlman gallery. Walter has used a variety of materials including plywood, OSB and cardboard for his most recent series of work.


In our center gallery, we are displaying the recently donated works by another Ohio resident, David Jansheski. David's untimely passing last year left unfinished a planned larger exhibition of his work here at the Ross. The Trust set up in his name graciously donated a range of his work and it is now on display.

In the West Gallery, more and recent acquisitions in the museum's collection are on view, including this gorgeous bronze tiger by Anna Hyatt Huntington, donated by the estate of longtime Delaware, Ohio residents and friends John and Libby Reed.

Finally, in the front Lobby gallery, our museum collection of photographs of artists, taken by other artists, continues for a few more weeks.

Landscapes to Compare and Contrast

The newest exhibits are open, just in time for Homecoming Weekend here at OWU. There are 3 new shows in 2 locations: Sally Christiansen Harris '76 has a great display of gorgeous photographs in Mowry Alumni Center, where they'll be on view until December 8, 2015. The photos are from all over the world, and Sally has captured incredible moments with her camera. You can read more about Sally and her work on Connect2OWU HERE


The Ross Museum is featuring pieces from our Permanent Collection in the Lobby gallery to honor National Spanish Heritage month, and in the other galleries, the work of two landscape painters are highlighted.

Paul Ching-Bor uses watercolors and massive sheets of paper to create very intense, dark images of New York City, where he's lived and worked for many years. The tension between a medium that's normally thought of as delicate, but is presented in such a deep, somber way is something Paul wants the viewer to experience. His exhibit is titled "Sur", and you can read more about it on Connect2OWU HERE

Todd Gordon is originally from Delaware, and his parents still live and work here. His landscapes also feature many views of New York City, and the contrast with Paul's work is striking. Todd uses oils on canvas, and creates intricate scenes that remind the viewer of panoramic photographs, very long, sometimes very narrow. The details really draw you into the paintings. Branch Rickey, Jackie Robinson, and Winfred Rembert!

The Branch Rickey/Jackie Robinson week long celebration is drawing to a close, and the response has been impressive! Lots of visitors, lots of receptions....but there's still time to come in and peruse all the artwork before the February 20th ending. Click on the link above to see lots of great photos from all the festivities all over campus!

We have had special group visits from OWU's Early Childhood Center, as well as Willowbrook Retirement Community. Many of the visitors have especially enjoyed the colorful paintings on leather by Winfred Rembert. Our Humphries Gallery (front lobby) has a special grouping from the museum's Permanent Collection: artwork by African-American artists, highlighting their talents for 2 months including Black History month.

Don't forget, the Ross Museum is free, and open to everyone! We're open late on Thursdays (until 9:00pm) and on Sunday afternoons! (1:00 - 5:00pm)

New Year, New Exhibits!

Today marks the re-opening of the museum after the holiday break! We've got lots of fabulous pieces to see:

A new addition to the Permanent Collection: Sculpture by Albert Paley, gifted to us!

Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson/baseball fine art exhibit

Paintings on hand-tooled leather by Winfred Rembert, including 6 pieces recently gifted to us!

These exhibits will be up until February 20th; the artist Winfred Rembert will be on campus February 10th, and we'll have a reception, so if you can't visit before then, circle the date on your calendar!

Welcome Back!

It's a new school year, and we have 2 lovely new exhibits to open with!

We are featuring the work of Anne McCauley and Duane Monczewski. Both artists will be on campus on Thursday, August 26th to speak at 3:00pm, and we'll follow with a lively reception at the museum, including libations, appetizers and live music!

Anne McCauley's works are large-scale drawings and smaller prints of found objects. She includes a display of some of those finds in the show, which is especially intriguing!

"My current work, explores notions of yearning, searching, and discovering. With an accumulation of “evidence/debris” from my surroundings I expand my shape and texture vocabulary."












Duane Monczewski's work is color photographs taken all over the Southwest, and yes, that wall is REALLY that green!!





"His work is concerned with light on surface, and the manipulation of the photographic print. Working with a variety of film types, including infrared, he utilizes selective bleaching and toning and a variety of surface treatments..."

In the Lobby Gallery, we also feature some of Duane's black and white photographs from the museum's Permanent Collection.

Both exhibits are open now, until September 17th.

Permanent Collection Addition - Wanda Ewing

As a result of her highly successful exhibition here at the Ross Art Museum in February and March, we were able to purchase 2 prints. Wanda's work is fun, provocative and empowering. This piece is block printed on old wallpaper!
